External Policies
National Institutes of Health Public Access Policy
- As of April 7, 2008, NIH's revised Public Access Policy requires scientists to submit final peer-reviewed journal manuscripts that arise in whole or in part from NIH funds to the digital archive PubMed Central upon acceptance for publication. To help advance science and improve human health, the Policy requires that these papers are accessible to the public on PubMed Central no later than 12 months after publication.
Public Access Policy Compliance requires PIs to:
- Ensure that agreements with journal publishers permit the submission of a project article to the PubMed Central repository.
- Include the PubMed Central or NIH Manuscript Submission System ID numbers when citing their own NIH-funded articles in NIH grant applications/progress reports. [Effective May 25, 2008]
