These definitions are provided for assistance when completing the GoldSheet.
Activity Types / Purpose
Activities organized to produce research, both externally and internally funded.
Noninstructional activities beneficial to individual/groups external to ISU.
For credit and noncredit courses; academic, vocational, and technical instruction; regular, special and extension sessions are included.
Fellowships are usually designated as such by the funding organization and often at a premium rate. They are usually awarded to a specific individual by the sponsor. May include education allowance or published tuition rates and fees of an institution, trainee stipends, prizes, or awards. Recipients are not required to perform service to ISU or expected to repay.
Scholarships are usually requested for Undergraduate Students. They are usually awarded to a specific individual by the University. May include education allowance or published tuition rates and fees of an institution, trainee stipends, prizes, or awards. Recipients are not required to perform service to ISU or expected to repay.
Funds requested solely to support equipment purchases/fabrications.
Central administration activities dealing with management/long-range planning; i.e. legal services, fiscal operations, ADP, personnel, storerooms, safety, security, public relations, etc. Operation and maintenance of physical plant, grounds, and facilities. Also includes utilities, fire protection, property insurance, etc.
Funds requested to support construction/renovation of ISU building(s).
An ongoing project that requires a non-competitive continuation proposal to receive additional funding (e.g. sponsor requests additional proposal to add both time and money to a project).
Internal Grant Program
Internal funding source (Typically sponsor is the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Center) Contact OSPA or program contact if unsure whether a goldsheet is necessary.
A proposal that has never previously been awarded.
A competitive renewal of a current award for another period of performance, submitted to the agency for consideration. Funding is requested but not guaranteed.
A proposal when ISU is performing a portion of the work proposed by another organization to a primary funding source (often a Federal Agency).
Additional funds within the same period of performance as an existing project.
Not in response to a particular program announcement.
Confidentiality agreement (also known as non-disclosure agreement).
Persons who are not US Citizens or Permanent residents (some Federal agencies may have additional restrictions on foreign involvement).
ISURF Background IP
Iowa State University Research Foundation (ISURF) owned intellectual property such as patented inventions or copyrights or software owned by ISURF that will be used in the project proposed under the GoldSheet.
Material transfer agreement.
Countries that are not part of the United States of America or its territories.
