COS FAQ's

  • Whom do I contact to get my username and password?
    Diane Meyer at 4-4567.

  • How many ISU faculty have received funding opportunities through COS?
Unfortunately, there is no data on the number of proposals submitted or awards received due to ISU faculty use of the COS funding opportunities features. We have never requested that PI's disclose the source of funding information for any of the proposals we receive. However, it is interesting to note that during the years we have subscribed to COS, we have witnessed the constant increase in the number of proposals and the total dollars brought to Iowa State University for funded research. Is there a connection? It's difficult to say, but we would hope that the convenience and accessibility of COS to our PI's has had some effect.

  • Is this worth my time?
Using the Funding Alert to have relevant and timely Funding Opportunities e-mailed directly to you has at least two advantages You may become aware of a new (to you) funding source and you may spend less time looking for funding opportunities which would allow you more time to pursue other interests.

In addition to obtaining funding information, PI's can use the profile information to locate other researchers to collaborate with or for peer review. We have begun receiving e-mails from ISU PI's who have been very pleased with their success when using this function.

ISU's membership in COS is supported 100% by the office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development. And of course we think it is a worthwhile program. We are continuously striving to find new and better opportunities for our researchers and the COS database supports our efforts.
